BEST OF: Connecting the Bible to the Land of Israel — guest: Dr. John DeLancey

How do you know that the events recorded in the Bible really happened? Your confidence in the veracity of those events is likely to be strengthened by visiting the land where most of those events occurred: Israel.

Dr. John DeLancey has led nearly 80 trips to Israel and participated in multiple archeological digs that have bolstered his own faith, as well as those he’s led on tours. We discuss the land of the Bible and how seeing it first-hand leads to a much deeper understanding of the stories recorded there.

John served as lead pastor for 26 years in two evangelical churches: Stoneridge Covenant Church in Allison Park, PA and Calvary Covenant Church in Evansville, MN. He has led around 80 tours of Israel, with many of them including stops in both Jordan and Egypt. He has served as an adjunct professor/teacher at the Solid Rock School of Discipleship/College (2016-2019) and the International Theological College & Seminary in Phnom Penh, Cambodia (2019). John is the author of two books: Devotional Treasures from the Holy Land and Connecting the Dots: Between the Bible and the Land of Israel. Visit his tour website and YouTube Channel.

Now . . . Throwing Mountains!

From this point forward, the Empowered Manhood podcast will be the Throwing Mountains podcast.

Mike and Chris explain why — after much deliberation, prayer, and discussion — they have changed the name. You’ll still get the same transparent interviews and inspiring “fence post” stories of men who’ve been used by God. The new emphasis on leadership is intended to encourage more men to step into the gap, assume their leadership roles, and live self-sacrificially for the sake of God’s redemptive purposes.

We’re excited to be joining the BiblicalLeadership.com Podcast Network, which will extend our reach and has helped clarify our mission moving forward.

Join us on the journey as we discover God’s call on our lives, as men, to “throw mountains” (Mark 11:23)!

How Our Stories Reveal What We Want Most (Part 2) — guest: Bob Wheatley

Stories — from books, movies, plays — engaged Bob Wheatley’s heart. His love for stories was fueled by his longing for God. The story he wanted to live was the deepest desire of his heart, and yours: The hero vanquishes the villain and saves the love interest. Paradise is restored. The righteous flourish, and the wicked perish.

This is the story of the Bible. In writing his book, Our Heart’s Desire: How Our Stories Reveal the Thing We Want Most, Bob had the goal of helping you fall in love with God and experience the love, joy, and passion you seek — all through discovering the universal story that is your story.

In part 2 of our interview with Bob, we dive deeper into this premise.

Bob is former professional baseball player, author, and podcast host.

How Our Stories Reveal What We Want Most (Part 1) — guest: Bob Wheatley

Are you searching for something that feels out of reach or longing for something you can’t seem to find? All of us have the same desires for love, joy, peace, and abundance. When those desires go unmet, as they often do, we feel alone.

What we desire most is to experience love from God. He promises that love to us — directly, in the Bible, and through stories. It turns out that the stories to which we are drawn the most are invitations from God . . . whispers from our Father, who keeps His promises.

Today, we discuss this with Bob Wheatley , the author of the book Our Heart’s Desire: How Our Stories Reveal the Thing We Want Most.

Bob is former professional baseball player, author, and podcast host.
