Why Today’s Concept of Biblical Rest Isn’t Working (Part 3) — guest: Gregory D. Hall

Guest Greg Hall explains why today’s concept of biblical rest . . . isn’t working. Our numerous discussions about “which day” and “how” the seventh-day sabbath should be observed have distracted, confused, and caused apathy within an entire generation of believers. But biblical rest is dramatically different than most suppose.

Greg is the author of the book Rethinking Rest: Why Our Approach to Sabbath Isn’t Working.  He is husband to his high-school sweetheart and father of two “twenty-something” young men. He’s been an adjunct Bible professor at George Fox University, Corban University, and Reach Training Institute. Hear him on the Rethinking Scripture Podcast.

The “Go Method” of Discipleship — guest: Rob Kowalski

In the second half of our conversation with Rob Kowalski, he explains what CityFam is and why it works. He then discusses the “Go Method” of evangelism, which is having a tremendous effect on churches around the country. This method doubled his own church’s weekly attendance.

Raised by a mother who was 15 when she gave birth to him, Rob had a childhood of poverty and want. With no strong male role model in the picture, he taught himself how to “be a man” and eventually became the most sought after male stripper in his hometown of Baltimore. At 25, he became a nightclub promoter and took over the nightlife in Charm City. His life looked like something out of a movie: sex, drugs, and alcohol. He was, literally, the life of the party. But he was empty. Lost. With severe addictions.

Then he had a radical encounter with Jesus that transformed his life and turned his mess into his message. Now Rob is considered an authority on sex, waiting for the right person, and overcoming loneliness in life. Raising Tech-Healthy Humans — guest: Daniel Sih

If our children are to be apprentices of Jesus, then they cannot continue to use technology as they are. Technology preys on certain parts of the brain, especially at a young age, and interferes with the development of the relational devices required for true heart connection with one’s family and peers.

Guest Daniel Sih explains why and how technology affects us, the lasting repercussions of too much tech use, how to limit screen time after having allowed too much, and what kind of tech use is beneficial and what isn’t. His insight sheds light on how to bring our children back to themselves, their humanity, and God.

Highlights include why Daniel decided to move from pastor to businessman, the difference between your “downstairs brain” and your “upstairs brain,” the emergence of increased neurodiversity in children due to technology, principles of leaning forward and back and near and far work, how to limit your child’s screen time in a lasting way, the humanity we lose through tech addiction, and how ordinary and mundane experiences shape our lives

Daniel, who lives in Tasmania with his wife and children, is a productivity consultant, professional speaker, and award-winning author of Spacemaker and Raising Tech-Healthy Humans. He is passionate about changing the way we interact with the digital world in life and work. Learn more, and connect with him, at his website.
